ISLAMABAD: Former all-rounder Azhar Mehmood has advised Mohammad Hafeez to the remove mental block regarding Dale Steyn as he is not an unplayable bowler.
“Hafeez needs to understand that Steyn is not unplayable and should take him easy,” said Mehmood while talking to a private TV channel.
It is pertinent to mention that the Protease pacer has so far dismissed Hafeez 16 times in international fixtures.
He said the T20 skipper had some technical flaws in his batting and was not mentally strong, adding, there was a need of a psychologist with the team to strengthen the mental level of the players.
Mehmood said it was good to see the youngsters thriving and displaying game awareness in the first ODI.
“Anwar Ali and Bilawal Bhatti should get consistent chances and should not be burdened by expectations.” he said, adding, “I hope both of them serve Pakistan more than Razzaq and me.”
The two all-rounders helped Pakistan winning the first One Day International at Cape Town with their brilliant show with both ball and bat.
While praising the performance of Sohaib Maqsood, Mehmood said the middle order batsman was a brilliant find but it was unfair to compare him to Inzmam-ul-Haq.
He suggested that Umar Amin and Asad Shafiq should be persisted with and given more confidence as they were the assets of Pakistan batting.
Mehmood further said the pitch in Port Elizabeth will suit Pakistan as it really aids the spinners. (APP)
